Established in 1981, WBCA was founded to partner with parents seeking a distinctively Christian, academically excellent education for their children.
The school began with sixty students in rented classroom space in the Quidnessett Baptist Church’s educational wing, located on Post Road in North Kingstown. Over the years, a variety of satellite campuses were utilized in nearby communities. In 1994, WBCA purchased 11 acres of property on School Street, located one mile from the Post Road campus. Phase I on this site was completed in 1995 for students in Grade 5 through 8. In March 2001, Phase II, a new classroom wing and administrative offices allowed this campus to become the primary “hub” of the Academy. Phase III, a 125 X 50 foot addition, was completed in April 2003. This addition houses the 900 square foot multi-purpose room/gymnasium, library, Fine Arts room, and 24-station science lab. In June 2004, WBCA completed the successful consolidation of all grades to the School Street campus. This allows for the effective administration of the school and a true sense of community among all students.
After a successful Capital Campaign to build an early childhood wing in August of 2009, West Bay began its Early Learning Program. The program was expanded in September 2010 to include a 4 year old Pre-Kindergarten program and a 3 year old Preschool program.
In May 2011, West Bay Christian Academy received its third 10-year accreditation status with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC) and second 10-year accreditation with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). We are proud to have been the first Christian school in Rhode Island to hold dual certification from these two commissioning agencies.
WBCA currently has an enrollment of 200 students, Preschool through 8th Grade. Our student body currently represents more than 40 churches and originates from 15 different townships within Rhode Island. West Bay has had the privilege of nurturing the children of West Bay communities over the past 40 years, providing an education that is distinctively Christian and academically excellent. The school celebrated its 40th anniversary through the 2021-22 academic year.
